Rituals at Meenakshi Temple
The Meenakshi temple is very lively and there are as many as 50 priests who perform the rituals daily and even during the festivals the priests take active participation in performing the puja.The priests belong to a Brahmin sub-caste and live in an area close to the temple. The temple has even a calender for their rituals. It has four main rituals to be performed that is the sacred bath, decoration , food offerings and waving of lamps.
The puja is usually accompanied by music with pipe instrument and its rituals are also held according to the Vedas which is followed by the priests. Before Sundareswarar, the worshipping of Goddess Meenakshi is taken place. And the common ritual for getting a perfect husband is also practiced.

Meenakshi Thirukalyanam is the most popular festival in Madurai. This festival is comes annually on April. The Madurai marriage is closely associated with the south Indian female -dominated marriage while the male is referred to as Chidambaram marriage. The marriage brings everyone together to celebrate Goddesses Meenakshi as the royal monarch. Events like the chariot festival and float festival is also celebrated. Even the Hindu festivals like Shivrathri, Navrathri are also popular among the people and it is held in the Meenakshi temple.
